ABOUT HELMET SAFETY & CERTIFICATIONS:
CPSC certification is a standard for bicycle helmets from the
Consumer Products Safety Commission - it requires manufacturers
to meet or exceed safety standards that include a two meter drop test for a single
impact helmet. Say again: CPSC rates helmets for safety based on ONE impact - so the CPSC organization
does not in any way certify that a single impact helmet is still safe AFTER its had ANY single impact.
ONLY CPSC helmets are sold in California. No other helmets on this page are available in California anymore.
That said, all the helmets we carry are safe for derby if they fit you properly. CPSC rating is less important
than that the helmet FITS WELL and is in good repair. It should not
move when you shake your head, even when the strap is not attached. It should fit low on your forehead, at the eyebrows for most
people, to guard your face in a fall. If the pads start to compress from use, or start to feel loose or
come out - even if you haven't had any impacts to it (liar) - its time to replace it.
Your brains are worth an extra $40 periodically. |
